EPIC weekend. Seriously. I just drove 7 1/2 hours to get back home and over 1,000 miles but it was worth it. We hit up as many stages as we could (including Steve Aoki in the Sahara tent where my Mum dragged me and my sister up to the front to dance - AWESOME), saw The Airborne Toxic Event perform "Sometime Around Midnight" with a full string quartet The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight, sang along with the crowd to Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out," got our eardrums blown out by Silversun Pickups and witnessed a 2 1/2 hour set by Paul McCartney that made the $100 ticket worth it alone. With all of the art exhibits and the hipper-than-thou crowd (apparently L.A. scenesters have decided to descend on Coachella since the last time I went in 2005) it was actually a really peaceful day with the only guy in handcuffs some dude who was busted in line. We only went for Day One as the tickets were $100 each and there's no way I could've handled doing two days in a row (sorry Outside Lands Festival. Your lineup is rad this year but I can't afford $269 for 3-day tickets - why no day passes????).
My recap for Oligoville will be posted in the next couple of days but in the meantime here are all the videos from the day:
Walking into the show
Me and Chachel bouncing around stupidly to We Are Scientists
Steve Aoki - That's the sound of me getting all excited in the background
Airborne Toxic Event's "Sometime Around Midnight"
The Ting Tings' "Great DJ"
Franz Ferdinand
Silversun Pickups on the Outdoor Stage
Waiting for Paul McCartney. I'm trying to figure out where I can get these Beatles remixes
Paul McCartney's entrance. I LOVE the crowd reaction - this video doesn't do it justice :)
Me ma telling me to behave myself :)
He said the word "Liverpool" (my home town) and we all screamed. The beginning of the video is us answering "Are you guys from Liverpool?"
"Blackbird"
"Eleanor Rigby"
"Something" on ukulele (given to Paul from George). Probably the best version I've ever heard and it probably helped that everyone was singing along...
"Live and Let Die" and fireworks!!?!??! Seriously one of the best shows I've EVER seen
"Yesterday"
So now I'm knackered, swollen feet from getting sunburned yesterday and ready for a nap :) In one piece of ridiculous news the Pirate Bay boys got arrested and sentenced this past week for hosting bit torrents (and being the biggest file-sharing site in the world). I know that the music industry needs to control file sharing but this just seems pathetic: "Court jails Pirate Bay founders"
